Thengai (coconut) thogayal

Thengai thogayal is a very simple recipe, goes well with variety rices especially coconut rice and plain rice. Also good sidedish for curd rice. If you run out of time or if you feel lazy and want to make a simple lunch for your family, you can make thengai thogayal and any variety rice.

Here is the recipe...

Ingredient:

Coconut (grated ) - 1/2 cup

Urad dal - 2tbsp

Redchillies - 3-4 nos.

Tamrind - peanut sized

Oil - 1 tbsp

Salt as needed

Water as needed

Method:

1. Heat oil in a pan add urad dal and fry it till golden brown then add red chillies and fry for a minute. switch off the flame. Now add coconut and give a quick stir.

2. Cool the above mixture for a while and grind it by adding peanut sized tamrind, salt and very less amount of water. Now thengai thogayal is ready.

Serve with rice of your choice.

 I served with karamani satham...

Notes:

  • As it is thogayal use very little amount of water to grind. Otherwise it will turn to Chutney.
  • First grind the ingredients mentioned above  coarsely without adding water. After grinding coarsely add little water and grind . If you do so, coconut will be grinded easily and you will get nice thogayal.
